To achieve this, a wide stacking door was installed beside the kitchen, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. When open, the space fills with light and air, extending the kitchen into the landscape in a way that feels distinctly Californian.

To unlock the room’s potential, the team began by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining area, an architectural decision that immediately introduced light, depth, and breathing room. One detail we especially love in this recently completed project at 424 Pala Ave is how the black walnut finish flows continuously through the groove or Gola, as it’s known in European cabinetry. Instead of appearing as an added element, the Gola becomes part of the architecture itself.
