A Modern European Kitchen Transformation in Piedmont, California

In Piedmont, California, what was once a cramped and awkward kitchen has been reimagined as a refined, modern space grounded in warmth and intention.
This wasn’t simply a renovation. It was a complete rethinking of how the kitchen should feel, how it should flow, how it should frame the Bay views beyond. The intent was to effortlessly connect the space to the backyard through expansive stacking doors. Every decision, from layout to materiality, was made to create clarity where there was once congestion.
European-style cabinets crafted in Italy are at the center of the transformation. We used precision-engineered custom cabinetry solutions that bring both elegance and performance into daily life. Designed and executed by ARTEZIA, this project demonstrates how thoughtfully integrated custom cabinetry can turn a challenging footprint into a seamless, architectural statement.
The Vision: Warmth, Modernity, and a Seamless Indoor–Outdoor Dialogue
From the very beginning, the client’s direction was both specific and nuanced: a kitchen that felt warm and modern, minimalist yet deeply inviting. They were drawn to a handleless aesthetic: clean lines, uninterrupted surfaces, and the quiet sophistication often found in European-style cabinets.
But this project wasn’t only about cabinetry or finishes. It was about atmosphere.

The homeowners wanted the kitchen to feel connected to their backyard, not visually adjacent, but experientially integrated. To achieve this, a wide stacking door was installed beside the kitchen, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. When open, the space fills with light and air, extending the kitchen into the landscape in a way that feels distinctly Californian.
Bringing that vision to life required more than beautiful Italian cabinets and refined materials. It required resolving a deeper architectural challenge: the layout itself.
Reimagining the Layout: Turning Constraint into Clarity

Before the renovation, the kitchen felt confined. The proportions were tight, and the classic work triangle: sink, cooktop, refrigerator, felt disjointed rather than intuitive. Movement required negotiation. Cooking lacked rhythm.
The challenge wasn’t simply aesthetic. It was spatial.
To unlock the room’s potential, the team began by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining area, an architectural decision that immediately introduced light, depth, and breathing room. A new island was carefully positioned to house the cooktop, anchoring the space while redefining circulation.
One element, however, was non-negotiable: the sink had to remain centered at an interior opening that frames long views through the living room toward the Bay. Preserving that sightline meant the layout couldn’t follow a standard formula.
This kitchen is not a galley. Not L-shaped. Not U-shaped. It is something far more unique.
Through multiple design iterations, the team refined a configuration that feels effortless, even though it required complex planning behind the scenes. The final result enhances movement between zones, improves workflow, and creates a sense of calm continuity throughout the space.
This is where thoughtfully engineered custom cabinetry becomes essential. With European-style cabinets designed to exact specifications, every alignment, reveal, and transition was calibrated to bring harmony to an otherwise challenging footprint. In spaces like this, precision is what transforms awkward into intentional.
European Style Cabinets with Italian Craftsmanship

At the heart of this transformation is TM ITALIA, a brand internationally recognized for its refined Italian cabinets and uncompromising architectural precision.
But what truly defines this kitchen is not just the name, it’s the material dialogue.
The cabinetry is finished in matte black FENIX, a surface prized in modern European design for its velvety texture and durability. Soft to the touch and resistant to fingerprints, it absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving the kitchen a quiet, understated depth.

On the island, solid walnut-grooved channels introduce warmth and tactility. These integrated handleless details are carved directly into the wood, creating a seamless opening system that feels sculptural rather than mechanical. It’s a subtle but powerful contrast. The richness of natural walnut against the sleek precision of matte black.
One detail we especially love in this recently completed project at 424 Pala Ave is how the black walnut finish flows continuously through the groove or Gola, as it’s known in European cabinetry. Instead of appearing as an added element, the Gola becomes part of the architecture itself. The grain carries through uninterrupted, reinforcing the purity of the handleless concept while showcasing the craftsmanship behind true Italian cabinets.
It’s a subtle move, but in luxury design, subtlety is everything.
Paired with the textured Neolith surfaces, the material palette creates dimension without clutter, a hallmark of well-executed European-style cabinets.
Beyond aesthetics, these are highly engineered custom cabinetry solutions. Every panel alignment, reveal, and transition is calibrated for precision. The result is cabinetry that integrates seamlessly with appliances, architecture, and daily function. Designed not just to impress on installation day, but to perform beautifully for years to come.
This is the difference Italian craftsmanship makes.
Material Palette: Where Concrete Meets Walnut

Materiality plays a quiet but powerful role in this kitchen’s identity.
The countertops and backsplash feature Neolith “Beton” and “Calatorao,” introducing soft, concrete-inspired tones that anchor the space without overwhelming it. Their mineral texture adds depth and subtle movement, creating a refined backdrop that enhances the cabinetry.
The dialogue between materials is what makes the composition compelling.
Matte black European-style cabinets absorb light with a velvety softness. Solid walnut introduces warmth and organic texture. Concrete-inspired Neolith surfaces bring balance and architectural structure.
Together, they create a layered yet cohesive palette. Modern but not stark, warm but not heavy. The result feels intentional and distinctly architectural, proving that thoughtfully selected custom cabinetry and surface materials can shape not just how a kitchen looks, but how it feels.
In this space, contrast is used with restraint, and that restraint is what gives it presence.
Precision in Function: Custom Cabinetry That Performs
In a truly exceptional kitchen, beauty is only half the story. Performance is what defines daily experience.
Behind the clean lines and seamless European-style cabinets lies a highly considered functional framework.
Integrated refrigeration disappears into the cabinetry.
A tall pantry opening provides generous, concealed storage.
Pull-out units
LeMans corner solutions ensure that even the most challenging spaces are fully optimized.
Every element operates within a fully handleless system, maintaining visual clarity without compromising usability.
Appliances by Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, Bosch, and Zephyr were carefully integrated into the custom cabinetry, allowing technology and craftsmanship to coexist without visual interruption. Nothing feels added on; everything feels resolved.
The timeline itself reflects the level of precision required:
Six weeks of design refinement.
Eight weeks of manufacturing.
Six weeks of transatlantic shipping from Italy.
One week of meticulous installation.

From concept to completion, execution demanded coordination, technical expertise, and exacting attention to detail. It’s this level of discipline and collaboration that defines the work of the best kitchen designers in the Bay Area, where luxury is measured not only in materials but in how seamlessly everything comes together.
When Renderings Become Reality
One of the most rewarding moments in any renovation is the transition from vision to reality, when drawings, samples, and digital renderings give way to physical form.
In this project, that transition was remarkably seamless.
After seeing the kitchen completed in person, Kitchen Designer Gene Ramos shared:
“After I saw it in person, I'm very proud of how it turned out personally. Especially how it looks exactly how Justine rendered it. It just shows how accurate Team ARTEZIA do their design and execution. 10/10!”
Interior Designer Justine De Jesus’ vision translated effortlessly from concept to construction, a testament to the precision behind ARTEZIA’s design process. In luxury custom cabinetry projects, this level of alignment is never accidental. It’s the result of meticulous planning, technical expertise, and close collaboration at every stage.
The Final Result: Flow, Warmth, and Intentional Design

Today, this 424 Pala. Ave home feels entirely transformed.
Movement through the kitchen is fluid and intuitive. The work triangle now supports, rather than interrupts, daily rhythm. The material palette feels bold yet grounded, balancing matte black European-style cabinets with the warmth of walnut and the quiet strength of stone.
The indoor–outdoor connection enhances the experience of the space, while carefully preserved sightlines maintain long views toward the Bay. Every element feels deliberate. Nothing feels accidental.
The result is modern, refined, and deeply livable, a space where custom cabinetry and Italian craftsmanship shape not only aesthetics, but experience.
What was once cramped is now composed. What once felt awkward now moves effortlessly.

A Client Perspective
For Architect and Homeowner Aradhana B. Jajodia, the experience was as meaningful as the outcome:
“Daniel and his team at ARTEZIA demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism and attention to detail throughout our project. Their expertise was evident at every stage, from the initial planning and process to the delivery, execution, and ultimately the outstanding quality of the finished product.
As an architect, I developed the layout myself; however, Daniel’s insight and guidance proved invaluable. His thoughtful input elevated the design in ways that we all truly appreciated.
From the outset, the process was clearly outlined and managed with precision. Every step was executed exactly as promised, ensuring complete alignment between expectations and outcomes.
Overall, our experience with ARTEZIA was seamless and highly positive. We look forward to working with them again on future projects and would confidently recommend them to friends, family, and clients alike.”
For a fellow design professional to speak to both the process and the precision behind the finished space is perhaps the strongest endorsement of all.
