Blue Never Looked This Good: A European Cabinetry Story in Tiburon, CA

Every project starts somewhere. For this Tiburon home, it started with a challenging footprint, a love of entertaining, and a desire for something far more personal than an ordinary white kitchen.
The homeowners wanted a space that could handle everything from quiet mornings to evenings filled with friends. The kitchen needed to be beautiful, certainly, but also easy to live in when dinner was underway and everyone inevitably gathered around the island.
The design was led by Andrea Montalbano of Dorman Associates, whose vision shaped the kitchen’s distinctive palette and character. At ARTEZIA, we helped bring that vision to life with custom TM Italia cabinetry, technical coordination, and installation.
Over 15 months, the renovation expanded beyond the kitchen to include the pantry, bar, and primary bathroom.
And then there was the blue.
Paired with warm walnut, the custom cabinetry gives the home its signature look: confident but welcoming, polished but never precious.

Starting Over, With a Better Plan
This was not a surface-level update. The original kitchen was completely gutted, giving the design team the opportunity to rethink the space from the ground up.
The footprint still presented its share of challenges. Existing architecture, circulation, and proportions all had to be considered. But those constraints became part of the solution rather than obstacles to work around.
Because entertaining was central to the homeowners’ lifestyle, the kitchen needed to accommodate both everyday routines and a full house. The finished layout does exactly that, with enough room to cook, gather, and move comfortably without the space ever feeling crowded.
That is usually the mark of a successful kitchen: you notice how good it feels, not how hard it was to make it work.
A Study in Blue and Walnut
The cabinetry is the first thing most people notice, and it is easy to see why.
The design balances clean, contemporary lines with the warmth of natural walnut, landing somewhere between transitional and Mid-Century Modern. The custom Benjamin Moore blue lacquer gives the room a strong point of view without overwhelming it.
Blue brings depth and personality. Walnut softens it with warmth. Together, they create a combination that feels both distinctive and completely at home.
The thin-frame cabinetry helps keep the look refined. Its slimmer profile gives the color room to stand out while maintaining a light, architectural feel.
It catches your eye, then lets the rest of the room speak.
European Cabinetry Tailored for the Space
This is where the flexibility of TM Italia really mattered.
Andrea’s design called for cabinetry that responded to the architecture rather than forcing the room into a set of standard dimensions. TM Italia’s customization made it possible to refine the cabinetry around the space and execute the details the design required.
Behind the blue and walnut, the kitchen is highly considered. Appliances are fully integrated, storage is carefully organized, and Blum hardware keeps everything operating smoothly.
You see the color, the grain, and the clean lines. Everything else works quietly in the background, ready when you need, and nearly invisible when you don't.
The most useful features are not always the ones that make the best photograph. They are the ones that make daily life easier.
Dedicated vertical storage keeps baking sheets within easy reach. Pull-out trash bins sit directly beneath the oversized Galley workstation sink, right where they are most useful during prep and cleanup.
Integrated appliance panels keep the cabinetry visually continuous, so the room feels calm even when it is doing a lot of work.
Good storage should not require a manual. You reach for something, and it is where you expect it to be. When friends are over and several things are happening at once, those small decisions become especially valuable.
The Art of Restraint
With the blue cabinetry and walnut already making a statement, the surrounding finishes were kept intentionally restrained.
The cabinetry is paired with Corian Designer White and Daltile Aesthetic Satin White and Tribal tile. The lighter surfaces add brightness, while the tile introduces just enough texture to keep the palette from feeling flat.
It's easy with luxury kitchen design to feel like every surface needs to make a statement. But sometimes adding less actually gives you more.
Here, keeping the surrounding palette restrained allowed the blue to feel richer and the walnut warmer. Nothing is fighting to be noticed.
Instead, each material has a chance to do its job, and together they make the kitchen feel layered, balanced, and comfortable to live in.
Making Fully Integrated Look Effortless
The cleaner a kitchen looks, the less forgiving the installation tends to be.
That was especially true here. With fully integrated appliances sitting behind custom European cabinetry panels, every detail had to line up just right. Even a few millimeters can make a difference when doors, panels, and reveals are all meant to read as one continuous surface.
Our installation team worked carefully through those details, making sure the appliance panels sat flush, and the lines remained consistent throughout the kitchen.
Most people will never walk into the finished space and think about any of this. They'll simply notice that everything feels clean and beautifully aligned.
For us, that's the goal.
When the installation is done well, you don't really notice the precision. You just notice how good everything looks together.
A Project Built Through Collaboration
One of our favorite parts of working on a project of this scale is getting to collaborate with talented teams who each bring their own expertise to the table.
For Vistazo East, we had the pleasure of working alongside Andrea Montalbano and Dorman Associates, whose vision shaped the home, as well as Hachman Construction, Inc., who brought the broader renovation together on site.
Over the course of 15 months, there were plenty of details to coordinate and decisions to work through. Having experienced teams on architecture, construction, and cabinetry made it possible to carry that vision consistently through to completion.
The finished home is a reflection of that shared attention to detail.
Fifteen Months Later
Looking at the finished photos, it's easy to forget just how much happens before a kitchen reaches this point.
Over 15 months, there were drawings, revisions, material selections, cabinetry details, appliance coordination, installation, and countless conversations along the way. But when you walk into the finished space, none of that complexity is what you notice.
You notice the blue. The warmth of the walnut. The clean lines. And how naturally everything seems to fit together.
That's probably what we love most about the finished kitchen.
What started as a challenging footprint has become a space that feels completely at ease with itself. There's personality without being too precious, plenty happening behind the cabinetry, and a layout that can handle everyday life just as comfortably as a house full of friends.
For us, that's always the goal. A beautiful kitchen matters, of course, but it should also make living in the home feel better.
And if it gives you another excuse to invite friends over for dinner, we'd call that a pretty good result.
