Three Ways to Treat Yourself from Your Friends at ARTEZIA! 🎄🎁🧑‍🎄

A modern European-style kitchen featuring custom cabinetry, warm wood tones, and refined architectural details designed to inspire your next Bay Area renovation.

If you’re planning a kitchen renovation in the next year or two or refreshing another area of your home that calls for custom cabinetry or solid wood furniture, this guide is for you.

In this edition of Insights, we will present:

  • The three key factors designers and clients look at when determining if they’re the right match

  • The three categories of custom cabinetry that ARTEZIA offers

  • The best way to choose a cabinetry manufacturer that fits your style, timeline and budget.

About ARTEZIA European Cabinetry | Design Studio

ARTEZIA is a San Francisco Bay Area-based interior design studio and custom cabinetry and furniture business specializing in high-end residential design and builds. Clients engage with us in many ways: some as a one-stop-shop for kitchen renovations. Others already have architects or designers and need our expertise for custom cabinetry designs, and some seek us out specifically for our custom solid wood TEAM 7 furniture.

The Three Factors Every Client Should Evaluate

When we begin a design conversation, both ARTEZIA and the client are evaluating three key factors:

  1. Design & Customization

  2. Timeline

  3. Budget

Everyone is familiar with a timeline and a budget, but we will go into more detail about both factors in this article.

Let’s start with the most personal (and often the most exciting): Design & Customization.

1. Design & Customization

Design & Customization refers to what a particular manufacturer can do, and what they are especially good at. Everything that we offer is completely custom in size, but only certain offerings offer complete customization capabilities.

This factor answers questions such as:

  • Is the design modern, transitional or traditional?

  • What types of finishes and materials are our clients most drawn to?

  • What type of hardware, lighting, and accessory items are their favorites?

As we go into depth about our three top offerings, you’ll get a clearer picture of how they differ, and how they may best fit your needs.

Although we are direct factory representatives for several European cabinetry lines, in this article we are highlighting our top three. You’ll see the full range of design and customization possibilities as we explore what each manufacturer does best.

2. Timeline

Everyone understands what a timeline is, but most projects actually have two: the anticipated, hoped-for timeline and the actual timeline. Anyone who has been through a renovation or new home build knows there’s often a gap between the two.

The Anticipated Timeline

The one you hope will happen.

One of the first questions we ask potential clients is, what is your anticipated start and completion date for your project, and what we hear back determines the best next step. Some folks will say they are in no rush and may not need cabinets for at least six months, or even a year or two. In these cases, your options are wide open, and most cabinet manufacturers are candidates for your project.

The Actual Timeline

This is the real-world on-the-ground timeline in a realistic world.

For example, if a client comes to us with a complete home renovation in July and is still securing permits, we already know they are likely at least six months away from needing cabinets on site. Yet many clients in this situation will say they need cabinets in 8 to 10 weeks because they plan to finish the project in time for the holidays. This is when we gently let them know they may need to adjust their expectations.

ARTEZIA’s Timeline Framework

Regardless of which manufacturer best suits your project, there are three phases in the timeline process that you should plan for:

  • Design

  • Manufacturing

  • Shipping and Delivery

Let’s break each one down.

Design Timeline

This first design stage of the timeline can vary significantly depending on the scope of the project, its complexity, and the client's decision-making process.

Most of the variables in this stage are controlled by the client and how quickly decisions are made. For example, while we can move through the entire design process within a couple of weeks, the more typical and realistic timeframe to develop 2D drawings and 3D renderings is 6 to 8 weeks. That being said, we’ve had several clients remain in the design phase for months and even years.

The main takeaway from this first phase of the project is that it is fixed regardless of which manufacturer you decide to move forward with, and the speed at which you can traverse this process is really up to you and the design team you select.

The ARTEZIA design team prides itself on not being a cause of delay in the process, and we treat revisions and updates like a hot potato. As we move forward through the process, once the ball is out of your court, we’ll return it quickly so we can maintain steady progress.

A final note on the design process. Along with the time it takes to decide whether to move forward with your kitchen designer, another factor that burns up the timeline is how long you take to make decisions. We see this all the time. Clients are highly motivated to move the order forward quickly, but they are not always completing the tasks they must on their end to make that happen. We assist in every way we can and are always happy to offer our opinions and suggestions on finishes and more, so we can move forward to the next phase.

Manufacturing

Once cabinet designs are signed off on and the deposit is paid, we send the orders to manufacturing. Timelines can range from 6 to 18 weeks, depending on the manufacturer, materials, and complexity. We go into more detail about each below.

Shipping & Delivery

  • European-made kitchen cabinets take 6 to 8 weeks to ship and deliver.

  • ARTEZIA’s European-style cabinets (made in the USA) take 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Expedited shipping for European cabinets is possible by switching from sea freight to air freight. But his option incurs additional costs. The air shipping options save about 6 weeks from the overall timeline.

3. Budget

Each manufacturer falls into one of three price groups:

  • PG1 – Most affordable

  • PG2 – High-end but more accessible

  • PG3 – Luxury, premium materials, fully specialized construction

You’ll see below how each ARTEZIA offering ranks.

The 1–2–3 Evaluation Method

Humans tend to prefer things in threes.

It’s easier to understand, digest, and compare when there are just enough choices, without so many that our heads start spinning. As we present our top three manufacturing options, we will also evaluate each of the three factors in groups of three.

They are as follows:

  1. Timeline: A number 1 refers to our fastest timeline, whereas 3 is the longest.

  2. Budget: A number 1 will represent the lowest price offering that ARTEZIA works with, whereas a 3 will be the most expensive.

  3. Design & Customization. A number 1 will convey the most limited and strict design offering, whereas a 3 will represent the most varied design and customization options.

In light of this 1,2,3 ranking system, let’s take a look at each of our top three offerings and how they stack up:

A modern European kitchen featuring TEAM 7 walnut cabinetry, matte black elements, glass-front storage, and a stone countertop in a bright, natural light-filled space.
A contemporary European kitchen by TEAM 7 featuring walnut cabinetry and matte black accents.

TEAM 7 (Austria)

TEAM 7 is one of Europe’s leading names in luxury solid wood cabinetry, a brand celebrated for its craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless modern design. Every piece is made in Austria from pure hardwoods, free from fiberboard and harsh chemicals, and thoughtfully paired with materials like matte glass, metal, and porcelain.

  • Timeline: 3

TEAM 7 ranks as a 3 for timeline. Because all of their cabinetry and custom furniture pieces are made from scratch from solid wood once the order is placed, the manufacturing timeline is approximately 12 weeks. After that, shipping and delivery from Europe take an additional 6 to 8 weeks. Shipping is included in our cabinetry cost, but if you’d like to expedite the process with air shipment, we can save about 6 weeks from the overall timeline. Note that this option does increase the cost.

  • Budget: 3

TEAM 7 is a Price Group 3 (PG3) manufacturer, and their offerings are high end. You can read more about how our various systems stack up in terms of pricing here. These cabinets are made from scratch using wood from protected European forests, and everything, including the structures, is crafted from solid wood, which contributes to the cost. TEAM 7 is our only PG3 manufacturer.

  • Design & Customization: 2

TEAM 7 is a 2 in terms of customization. While all of our systems are completely custom-sized, and TEAM 7 will accommodate some completely custom designs, their system is not entirely customizable.  For example, there are three materials to choose from (wood, glass, or porcelain), hardware must be selected from within their system, and all door and drawer fronts are slab design (flat panel). TEAM 7 does not offer Shaker fronts. If you’re looking for specialized materials or door designs outside their range, it’s best to select a different vendor.

TM ITALIA (Italy)

TM ITALIA delivers fully bespoke Italian kitchen cabinetry, combining artisanal craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. With hundreds of materials and endless configurations, they create kitchens that are uniquely personalized and meticulously engineered.

  • Timeline: 2

Overall, the timeline is a 2. The cabinets take about 8 weeks to manufacture and 6 to 8 weeks to ship and deliver. If you’re in a rush, we can save approximately 6 weeks by air shipping your cabinets, but this will add to the cost.

  • Budget: 2

TM ITALIA is a PG2 offering. While certain materials such as metal cabinets or stone-faced cabinets can fall into the PG3 price range, the vast majority of our TM ITALIA projects, including laminates, lacquers, and wood veneers, are PG2.

  • Design & Customization: 3

When it comes to modern design, TM ITALIA can do almost everything.

ARTEZIA Cabinets (Made in the USA)

Our own line of ARTEZIA Custom Cabinets is European-style and materials, but made in the USA. We offer this option for several reasons, which can be evaluated in terms of our three factors: timeline, budget, and design.

There are two types of ARTEZIA Cabinets, the Euro-Line system and our Custom offering. They are best evaluated independently on the three factors.

ARTEZIA Euro-Line

The ARTEZIA Euro-Line was introduced to fill the need for a faster timeline and a lower price point. To accomplish this, we needed to curtail the design and customization options to streamline production. Within the Euro-Line offering, materials, door styles, and finishes are limited, but everything is still completely custom-sized. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Timeline: 1

The timeline for our Euro-Line is 6 weeks door-to-door. Once the design is completed and approved and the deposit is paid, there is a 6-week lead time for your cabinets to arrive. Therefore, the timeline factor for Euro-Line is a 1. It’s our only offering that we can deliver this quickly.

  • Budget: 1

In addition to being fast, the Euro-Line is also affordable, it’s a PG1 offering. The ARTEZIA Euro-line is our only PG1 option. TEAM 7 is our only PG3 manufacturer, and all the others are PG2. That said, each manufacturer includes multiple price points, and it’s always possible to spend more depending on the choices you make. More on this below.

  • Design & Customization: 1

The Euro-Line ranks as a 1 in this category. While all sizes are fully customized, the finishes and door styles are fixed. For example, if you want a special custom lacquer color, or a specific wood melamine or wood veneer material, it will be best to look toward TM ITALIA or the ARTEZIA Custom offering

ARTEZIA Custom Cabinets

ARTEZIA Custom Cabinets are exactly that; completely customizable. We offer this line to provide any type of cabinet, from modern handleless groove styles to traditional inset door designs. The possibilities are endless.

  • Timeline: 2

The ARTEZIA Custom line is a number 2 timeline. Most orders take about 12 weeks to make, though some can be completed faster, and some may take longer. It all depends on the project's details and complexity.

  • Budget: 2

This is a PG2 offering. The costs are in line with other high-end local custom cabinetry rates, and the quality of the hardware, finishes, and construction is premium. It is designed to offer exceptional value within the high-end Bay Area cabinetry market.

    Read more about pricing here.

  • Design & Customization: 3

The ARTEZIA line is a number 3 in terms of customization. When it comes to custom cabinets and kitchen cabinetry, we can do anything. Even though TM ITALIA is also a number 3 for design and customization, their capabilities are more limited when it comes to specific framed-door cabinets for transitional or traditional SF Kitchens. For fully customized framed doors, we turn to the ARTEZIA line.

Pricing Details

One thing to keep in mind about all our manufacturers is that, within each line, there are various materials and design price groups, but we try to keep things simple in how we present options to our clients.

For example, TM ITALIA:

  • PG1: Matte lacquer or melamine wood finish

  • PG2: Fenix laminate, walnut veneer, glossy lacquer

  • PG3: Solid color glass cabinets or porcelain-faced cabinets

So, as we drill down into a specific manufacturer, there are always ways to spend more money and also ways to save.

Conclusion

There’s an old saying in construction: you can have it fast, cheap, or quality, but you can only pick two. At ARTEZIA, quality is non-negotiable. Everything we offer is entirely custom, made-to-order, and built to last, so the real conversation becomes about budget and timeline and which cabinetry manufacturer aligns best with your goals.

If your budget is flexible and you’re looking for a contemporary European kitchen cabinet aesthetic, TEAM 7 and TM ITALIA remain our top recommendations. Their craftsmanship is extraordinary, some of the finest in European kitchen cabinetry, but their lead times are longer, typically starting at 15 weeks unless you choose air freight (best for smaller kitchens or furniture due to cost).

If you want a similar modern European look at a more competitive price point, BINOVA is an excellent option and a favorite among clients exploring high-end Bay Area cabinetry

For clients drawn to transitional or traditional styles such as inset or face-frame cabinetry, and who want a faster timeline without sacrificing design flexibility, our ARTEZIA Custom line offers the ideal balance of speed, value, and customization.

Whichever direction you choose, our goal is simple: to guide you toward the cabinetry solution that fits your style, timeline, and investment, without ever compromising on quality. Whether you’re exploring options online or visiting kitchen showrooms in the Bay Area, our team is here to help you create a home that feels beautifully designed and built to last.
